Alexandra Barth

Bio

graduated with a BS in Chemistry from Florida State University in 2017. Alex received a Caltech Institute Fellowship (2017) and the NSF-GRFP fellowship (2018-2021) to support her graduate research. She graduated with her Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology in 2022 with Prof. Harry Gray. During her graduate studies, Alex received the DOE SCGSR internship to support an internship at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory using x-ray absorption spectroscopy, working with the Solution Phase Chemistry subgroup mentored by Dr. Kelly Gaffney and Dr. Amy Cordones-Hahn.

At Caltech, Alex completed the Certificate of Practice in University Teaching through the Caltech Center for Teaching, Learning, and Outreach. She received the Women Mentoring Women: Outstanding Mentor Award (Caltech Diversity) and Outstanding Teaching Award (Caltech CCE Division). She served as Co-President of the Caltech Women in Chemistry chapter and Co-Organizer of the division’s Inorganic-Organometallics Seminar Series.

Currently, she is a postdoctoral scholar with Prof. Felix (Phil) Castellano at North Carolina State University. Her research interests include molecular electronic structure and time-resolved spectroscopy of photocatalytic systems, resolved using combined experimental and computational approaches.
