Ann Marie May
Bio
Ann Marie May obtained her B.S. in Chemistry at Virginia Tech in 2019. Shortly thereafter, Ann
Marie began her graduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying the
photophysics, photochemistry, and proton-coupled electron transfer reactions of transition
metal complexes. Throughout this time, Ann Marie was supported by a National Defense
Science & Engineering Graduate Fellowship (2020 – 2023) and completed her Ph.D. in 2024.
During her time at UNC, Ann Marie was active in several organizations and outreach programs,
including the UNC Joint Safety Team, The Scoopula, and NC Science Expo, among others.
Guided by her interests in physical inorganic chemistry, she joined the Castellano group in
October 2024 as a postdoctoral researcher, studying the electronic structure and photophysics
of earth-abundant metal complexes for photochemical applications.
